TRIBUTE TO A GREAT GREAT MAN: BENKAY (BENJAMIN ADEKUNLE OKEOWO)

I'd seen him on TV a lot of times, and his performance was always stellar. Without fail. I'd heard my Dad talk about him a couple of times, (they worked together in NTA for so many years) and he always had nice things to say about him. ALWAYS. His daughter, Funto was in my class in Secondary School (in fact, her seat was just in front of mine) and I remember a certain Val's Day, he sent her some Val gifts and I was totally in awe 'cause that wasn't something I was very familiar with... :) ...And then, I landed my first major MC job: The Pepsi/Mirinda 50cl Launch in Kwara (I can't exactly remember how it was phrased)  and guess who I was blessed to be co-hosting with; BENKAY!!! I was age 19/20 and I was soooo nervous, you can't imagine. There were so many much older people there, in fact, I had to invite my friend Femi (Phera), so at least I'll know there was someone I know in the audience; but then he was... I can't even start to

MEMO: MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS

Growing up, I remember when you’re having a fight with your friend or classmate, it is an ‘elemi loma last’ (survival of the fittest) situation; i.e you just want to have the final say in the ‘battle of words’ or you bear the shame of ‘losing’. And so, you go all out, use words and phrases like: ‘American Dustbin’, ‘Nigerian Baboon’, ‘Stupid’, ‘Amebo Business Centre’, ‘Go and brush your mouth before you talk to me’, ‘Shut up’, ‘Shut down’ "Mind your freaking business", and so on... I was a well brought up ‘good girl’ (still ‘am’ :) ), plus I don’t consider myself a confrontational person, and so I didn’t usually get into those war of words, I’ll just let u ‘abuse me’ and go; at times when I was very enraged, I’ll just say ‘silence is the best answer for a fool like you’, or ‘I wish you what you wish me’ but I always felt bad after every of such ‘fight’. And so, you can imagine my joy when I opened my Bible one day and stumbled on I Thes 4:11: “Make it you

KEEP CALM IT'S MY BIRTHDAY

22 RANDOM THINGS MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT MOI :) I’m 22 tomorrow (July 17) and even though I might not have had ‘favorite childhood memories’ like ‘regular’ people, I’ve been such a blessssed girl. I’m so grateful to God. He’s given me a life better than I ever could have lived on my own. I’m actually a very private person, I don’t like to talk about myself but I just feel so excited about this birthday and I feel like sharing 22 of some of the things most people don’t know about me with you. I won’t go into details, sorry :-p ..hehe... UPDATE: A friend of mine said to me, "I read through this list and most of the things you wrote tell me absolutely nothing about you that I didn't know before, why are you so tight-fisted about information about yourself?"... Plus, my friend, Femi 'Phera' Joshua nominated me to say 20 things about me on instagram recently, so I decided to kuku 'UPdate' this list...some new points have been adde

TO MY FUTURE KIDS

Hello my Sunshine/Prince, Where do I start to express my love for you? I love you so much already, though you’re not even on your way yet and Imma love you some more when you arrive. I trust that God is working to mould me into becoming that perfect mother for the perfect soul that he’ll hand-pick and customise just for me and my lord. I know you can’t read this right now but I know you’ve been conceived in God’s mind.  And really, God knows way more about you than I ever will. Please love Him with your whole heart and obey Him. He has shown me over and over again that He never ever leaves; and I’ll really love for you to experience Him firsthand, you’ll be very blessed.

BOYA KE BRING BACK OUR GIRLS ASAP!

I'm sure the ear of the world is full with shouts of #BringBackOurGirls right now as it should be.   About 276 schoolgirls between the ages of 16 and 18 were abducted by the Boko Haram extremists at gunpoint on April 14 from their rooms at the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Nigeria, where they had been sleeping and 'nothing' has been heard of them ever since. And another 8 were abducted yesterday by these same guys o, in that same Borno!   How evil can people make themselves to be? And how nonchalant can some other people be? Yesterday on Twitter, one of those white guys said 'I know now CNN will be all over the Chibok Girls story, well, somebody has to be'. (did you get that?)   It is no longer funny at all and I can't even start to pour out my frustration right now, those who follow me on twitter (@CountessPIA), can bear witness that I've been going on and on about this because I'm first a girl, and then a Nigeri

A LETTER TO MY FUTURE HUSBAND

This one’s for The Man Who Will One Day Become My Soul-Mate in Crime *wink. # Dear future Husband of mine, How are you, mi loveness? I’m not totally sure what my purpose in writing this letter is; I guess I just really wanted to talk to you. It’s so weird that I haven’t met you and I’m writing you, right? Well...  I have sooo many things I wanna say to you and gist you about and I don’t even know how to coordinate those thoughts and make them rhyme. So, this letter may seem all over the place, just be attentive, you’ll understand, because you’re sooo super smart...mwaaah. Right now, my love life is rather lacklustre  and I am heart-broken right now, I'll gist you... but I’m not embarrassed one bit about it or ashamed of not having a serious relationship (or a string of silly relationships). That mostly has to do with my determination not to date someone *just* to date them. I want more than that from my love life and I know you’re absolutely worth the

30 THINGS TO DO BEFORE I'M 30

A couple of days ago, my friend Sodeeq and I were having our usual chit-chat and suddenly, he said to me ‘Babe, live a little...’ That statement prompted me to start to think about those things I've always wanted to do but just haven't gotten round to doing. During my self search, I suddenly discovered I haven't really really like really done anything very fun or memorable these past years of my life (except, of course, my night out with the girls (Sasa, Leemah and Steph last year....lol. that was super memorable... *lip sealed*)... and that is funny because I consider myself a very adventurous person. I looove travelling, learning about other cultures and all so I don't know why I've been this 'boring'... So I decided to take a break from all the 'seriousness' going on in my life right now and write down some 30 things (fun, some not-so-fun things) I'd like to do on or before I clock 30, and in my awesome graciousness, I have de

MEMO: THIS ONE'S FOR REAL MEN

If you're not a real man and you're not aspiring to be one, please ignore everything you see here :| Being a real man no be by muscles o Hello guys, I write you from the groanings of my tiny heart, please indulge me. First, what’s the deal with this new trend y’all rocking these days? This new trend of beating women to stupor/even to death? We all have heard the Pistorius, Akolade stories. And there is also this rape thing everywhere... What is it? What what what is wrong with you gaaaaaan sef... I feel very troubled that men who are supposed to protect the women in their lives end up being their worst nightmares. Get a grip on yourselves boys! Look! A muscular body,   fat bank account, good friends network, a good job, political positions, chieftaincy titles, religious position, baritone voice, hairy chest, athletic body, goatee, big grammar, ability to father a child, big car, big house, international connections. All these can make you a man but

THE TIDES WILL TURN
